On Tuesday, 14th May 2019, a 25 – year old Doctor drowned in Colomb beach, Goa.
The victim was identified as Dr. Utukuru Ramya Krishna. She hails from Jaggayyapeta in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. She was working in a Primary Health Centre in Jaggayyapet right after her MBBS. She moved to Goa in 2018 and was working in emergency services.
She visited Colomb beach along with 5 of her friends. There, she climbed on top of a rock to take a picture. A strong wave hit the rock and swept two of them into the sea. The locals were able to rescue Ramya’s friend but was not able to rescue her. The group of friends were in an isolated part of the beach and hence the lifeguards were not watching over them.
Ramya was living in Canakona city in South Goa. Her father recently passed away.
24 ‘no selfie zones’ has been marked with red flags along the coastline of Goa following a series of accidents and deaths of tourists visiting.
