Mumbai man (36) falls in quarry while taking selfie

Taking a selfie at Lonavala valley near Khandala, India, turned fatal for a 36-year-old Mumbai man on the evening of Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

The incident took place on around 6 pm and his body was found in a 200 feet quarry on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Santosh Gothad (36), a resident of Golibar Maidan, Santacruz in Mumbai.

Lonavala city police have filed a case of accidental death.

According to police, “Santosh, along with his friend Pancham Ravidas who work in a mall in Lonavala came to shooting point at Khandala on motorbike. Our officers had warned them not to climb the valley but our advice went unheeded as both climbed the peak of mountain to take selfie with waterfall as backdrop. Santosh slipped and lost his balance and fell down in Kachal quarry of Khandala ghat. Initially Pancham and a private security guard tried to find him out but when their search resulted to nothing, they approached us. We along with Lonavala based Shivdurg trekkers unit along with rescue team and at around 3.30 pm on Wednesday, we fished him out. He was declared dead.”
