US. Woman (37) falls to her death while taking a selfie

JoAnn Restko

A woman identified as JoAnn Restko, 37, was mountain climbing near Lake George in the Adirondacks, New York State, USA, when she fell on Saturday, June 18th, 2016.

Reportedly, Restko was hiking with a companion early Saturday afternoon, at Roaring Brook Falls in Keene when she went out onto a ledge at the top of the falls to take a picture.

The friend told investigators that Restko was edging toward the ledge on her posterior and hands, phone in hand, so she could take the shot.

The friend said she saw Restko try to turn around, but then disappeared from sight. When the friend was unable to locate Restko, she called rescue services.

The rangers responded and discovered Restko’s body in the water at the base of the falls.

Authorities said Restko fell between 80 to 100 feet, striking the rock walls as she fell.

“It’s not a straight drop down,” said a coroner. “You’re hitting different jets as you’re going down.”
